A Small Piece of History - Bernard Historical Museum

LOCATION7135 W Delton Road, Delton, Michigan (USA)
(269) 623-3565

In Prairieville Township (Barry County), near the town of Delton, we find the Bernard Historical Museum.  Since we are history buffs, we can’t pass up the opportunity to see historical buildings.
Founded in 1962, this roadside village has 8 historic buildings.  The museum is open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays from June to September and some Saturdays.  Unfortunately, we arrived after 5 p.m.  Because it was late and the buildings are closed, we limit the amount of time we spend walking around the site.  However, if you are in the area, I would recommend stopping here to check out the buildings and displays.  There is a small grassy area for parking.

The site’s largest building is the hospital built by Dr. Bernard (early 1930’s).  It now serves as the museum where pre-World War II items and other cultural artifacts are on display.

The real reason for our visit is to see the one-room schoolhouse - the Brown School (built in 1873).

My Mom loved to sew and created many beautiful things including our clothes.  I thought of her as we walked around the Seamstress Cottage.

The Visiting Doctor’s Cottage is a future site of their new office location.
